    1965 Essential Tool Kit

I just got a 65 with one of these tool kits with it. I assume it was a dealer item. Question is how rare is it and is it worth anything?

The kit looks like the Kent-Moore tools that the dealer had to purchase for the new 65 models. You can probably find these tools in the 65 service manual.

      Jeremy,

That's too cool, describe the tool in there.

Mikes right on that, each year the dealers were required to have the latest new tools for that model year, as the years progressed the tool kits got bigger and bigger. It got to be so bad we had 55 gallon drums full off them It seemed unless you hired a full time employee the keep track and organize you would have to hunt the tools down. Jeremy that a nice find. Do as mike says find some older service manuels and at the end of each of sections the special tools are listed, you find the J numbers there, just document what each one for.

....and many of those K-M tools were usually in some mechanic's tool box or at his house never to be seen again.

Kent-Moore made some really nice tools.

In the short stint as Service Manager in a GM dealership, the last tool kit we had to pay for was over $3k and that was just for one car line. It a dual dealership and the X tool kit was over $5k but that included the blue box fuel infestation tester

I remember that kit well. The 85 corvette had the Bosch injectors and were always plugging up. Back around that time the tools were to numerous to keep track new transmissions were being built each year It was tough to try and keep up with technology.

You must be talking about that Bendix EFI system test set for the Cosworth Vega. There a still a few of them around. I figured out long ago that most of the electrical tests could be done with a simple multimeter, but the "blue box" is cool.

That EFI system has proved over the years to be very durable. A buddy of mine who was in aerospace electronics manufacturing inspected the ECU and thought is was "overbuilt" by automotive standards of the day.

Most EFI "problems" on Cosworth Vegas are the same as we experience on any old car - connectors!

I might still have a few of those tools some where in my tool box.

Kit would work on Cadillac, Vega, and Datsun 280Z's when I had that job. I was gone befo' the FI Vette's. If the Caddy and Vega dealers had as much problem with the early FI as Datsun did, I feel for them.

Edward ref the 1985 fuel injectors, I bought my 85 from the original owner in 1992 and she gave me all invoices for work on the car. Still running my 85 with the factory injectors, even hit 4,000 RPM from the on ramp getting onto I-40 in front of line of semi-trucks running on I-40 the other night, still running like it is supposed to, backed off to continue at the speed limit out in front of traffic.
