    Carlo -

GM used over half a MILLION lug nuts every single day, from many different suppliers, each of which had its own marking on the outboard face of the nut; I think it would be pretty far out to suggest that any one lug nut marking was " the original".

Carlo, I purchased a box of twenty lug nuts from a Chevrolet Dealership in 1980 and the twenty lug nuts are stamped with " DMC ". My 1966 has " RBW " and a waffle pattern stamped on the outside the of lug nuts.

        John-----

I totally agree. In the case of lug nuts, the only way to know what headmarking lug nuts were originally installed on a particular car is to have the KNOWN original lug nuts----all 20 of them---- from that car. It's possible, of course, that there were lug nuts of more than one manufacturer installed on any particular car.

Lug nuts wear out and may be replaced over the years. They seem to me like they're a relatively soft material and rather easily gall. Basically, once the galling damage proceeds to a certain point, they ought to be replaced (but often are not).

The part number for 7/16-20 lug nuts, GM #358501, is an ancient part number. It was "alive" before most of us were alive. It'll probably still be around after most of us are gone. Ain't that something----a part number that will live longer than most of us. That doesn't happen too often.

        Addendum:

Boy, did I blow my prediction on this one. I just checked and GM #358501 was discontinued without supercession in September. Still, it did lead a long life.

Thats true John........but some lug nut logos seem to show up often on unrestored cars but seldom show up on restored cars.
The DMC logo is a good example of a logo I've never seen on an unrestored 1963 in the past 40+ years.
