    Wheelhouse undercoating

I'm reviewing my judging sheets from the Lone Star Regional and it indicated excessive undercoat in the wheelhouses and splash pans. I stated taking some off with a heat gun and plastic scraper. Here are a couple of pics of the removal and the rest of the housing. Should there be any on the inner fender well? None on the frame?

As far as I know, no C1, C2, or C3 Corvette ever originally had undercoating applied to the frame or other chassis components. C3 Corvettes did have a thin undercoating applied to the rear of the wheel wells. I don't know if C1 Corvettes had this, though.

John, what I did on my 1960 was used the 3M rock guard (can't remember the exact name), it goes on with a littler larger globs and goes on a light tan. I let it set for a while (not long) and used a sponge to give it more texture. Let it dry overnight, then I covered it up with the black undercoating from a FLAPS. I only sprayed an arc (maybe 12"-14" wide) from the bottom edge of the splash guard up and covering the underside of the fender and down the front. In other words I sprayed a strip not the whole area. At the Bowling Green regional I got dinged (comment only) for not enough undercoating around the headlight buckets. So I did them heavier and a little heavier on some other ares of the front and rear wells where I didn't think the texture was heavy enough. Just heavier in the same areas I had already done, but not wider or the whole area.

I got no deduct or comments at the Hampton Nationals.
