    U-joints

I have ordered all the U-joints for my 74 BB. the half shafts and the front of the drive shaft are taken care of; however, the rear of the drive shaft it seems uses a different U-joint. I would like to go with the stock non-greaseable U-joint. Can someone recommend a good quality product and where to get it?

    Thanks

I thought the front and rear u-joints were identical (?)

If I recall correctly, there were a few years where the front and rear u-joints were different. I think it was for auto-equipped cars. Joe Lucia discussed this and provided part numbers. Info should be in the archives, although I will also check my files.

          Larry------

If I ever said that there were some years when there were different u-joints used on the front and rear of driveshafts, I believe I would have been incorrect. I don't know of any such circumstance.

However, if we're just talking about different CONFIGURATION u-joints of the same size, that could have occurred for the reasons described in the post you linked. It would not have occurred in PRODUCTION but it could have occurred in later SERVICE.

See my response to the original post.

Are you talking about different CONFIGURATION u-joints but of the same SIZE or are you talking about front and rear u-joints that are of a different SIZE? By SIZE I mean the width of the u-joints as measured end-to-end across opposing fingers and the OD of the trunnion caps.

Someone swapped differentials or diff pinion yokes. 74 should have the 1330 joint 3.625" cap to cap but the earlier cars had the 1310's which are 3.250" cap to cap.
