    62 Fresh Air Hose Connection to carburetor

    My '62 had an Edelbrock carb on it and I recently replaced it with a correct 3269S AFB that I purchased.In trying to finish the connections, I put in a fresh air hose from the bottom of the manifold to the carb per the assembly manual.Trouble is, I cannot see where to connect it to the carburetor.In a picture from a prior post:https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...clean-air-tubeIt shows a nipple on the air horn of the carb that the hose goes to.Trouble is my carb doesn't have a nipple.Although my air horn has the correct 6-1518 casting number, were there multiple flavors of the air horn with and without the nipple?

    Peter;

    If your "correct carb" came from a rebuilder, my experience has been they mix and match parts to come up with what they perceive to be a correct model carb without the knowledge of the minor differences that make each model unique. They only care about the stamping marks on the base - and even those can be faked. I got a "correct" 3461S for my 63 L-76 (SHP) and it had the correct model and date I needed, but it only had the hole for the fresh air tube - no nipple. Also, it had the rolled SS vent tubes in the top plate - typical of a later 3720 series carb instead of the brass tubes. The worst thing was that it contained just one correct venturi primary cluster and one from a 3720 series carb. I finally got them to exchange the top plate (same part number) for one with brass vent tubes, and exchange the incorrect cluster for the correct one (different part numbers). The top plate had an aluminum fresh air tube instead of brass, but I changed that myself as I got tired of all the back and forth.

    I now have a completely correct 3461S carb, but it still has a lean surge that I have yet to find the cause for, even with a number of jet changes an modification of the jet tubes and air bleed holes of the clusters. I'm now having the primary shaft rebushed to eliminate a lot of slop that I couldn't really find a vacuum leak fault with, but I want to have the primary butterflies aligned equally with the transition slots in the throttle bores.

    I am still using my backup 3721SB carb which I have working perfectly. With it i don't use the fresh air tube as I prefer my thermal controlled electric choke. It works great and, as a result, I'm in no hurry to put on my correct carb no matter how well i get it to work. I mostly drive my car now so I don't care how many mistakes in the 63 design I must correct in order for it to run well.

    Take a close look at your carb and check all the component part numbers. I'd also go back to who you purchased the carb from and complain about the top plate being incorrect, and you may need to explain/educate them about what your model is really supposed to look like.

      I agree. That's likely exactly what happened.

        Peter, your air horn does not appear to be correct for a 3269S. The 3269S air horn had small posts - those jobbies on the top that stick up and locate the air cleaner base. All the other AFBs had big posts. But the 3269S had small ones. Look at the pictures of the 3269Ss on EBay now. (Ignore the one from Proteam. Their stuff is always wrong.)

          Thanks for the feedback everyone. I called Chicago Corvette Specialty and they said it was a mistake, and that if I send it back they would fix it at no charge.

            You might want to post a picture of the 3269s and date stamp. It seems that allmost all are restamps these days. Look for flashing in the shape of a little rectangle on the lower right looking at it and flashing on the far left edge. If it is smooth it is fake.
