    Install soft top

I bought a used complete soft, frame and all. Where can I find information on how to adjust the mounting brackets?

If your talking about adjusting the frame where it mounts to the body, it is covered in the ST-12

        Steve,

Yes the ST-12 has the basics of the bracket adjustments, however.......

You may have fitment issues if the soft top material is already assembled to the frame. You may be fortunate enough to get it to fit properly, but typically the frame must be adjusted to the body and side glass before the soft top material is installed to the frame. There are so many factors and variations on C1's that you could get some areas fit properly, but end up with other fitment issues elsewhere. Also keep in mind that part of the process is to ensure it will stow in the well properly, without hitting the decklid male latch or pinching the material at the rear bows. Normally the frame is installed bare and tested for stowage long before the rag goes on.

If you get lucky with the assembly, great. But if the rag is in good condition it may be feasible to remove it from the frame, along with the pads and straps, get the frame set and reinstall soft goods. The soft top pads are installed first along with the rear window straps to specific measurements. If these aren't set right the pads will be wrinkled and could affect other fitment areas. If the rag is marginal, it may be feasible to start from scratch with a new one.

There was a great soft top related thread last year that will help you, here.....

In it is a great frame adjustment procedure by Mike Coletta who's done very many of these C1 tops.

Note that the thread is so big that if you're using "Hybrid View" you have to click on "More replies below current depth...." to see them all.

The entire thread may be very worthwhile reading as the original poster had a similar situation as you. He installed the top and discovered it wouldn't fit in the well.

        Good luck....it's a tedious job.

          Re: Install soft top

          Thanks Richard,

I bought the top mostly for the frame as I don't have one. I am not expecting it to be a drop in fit but since the top is in good condition I hope I can use it. Your information will be most helpful.
