My 1966 convertible is getting a new paint job this winter. It has bubbles in the old paint by the master cylinder which I have been told is due to brake fluid leaching through the fiberglass. How can this be eliminated so it won't come through the new paint?

Re: Eliminating paint bubbles possibly due to brake fluid
Try sanding the bare fiberglass with 80 grit the soak it with dupont 3812 reducer let it dry soak it again with dawn rinse and put in the sun . if there is no hot sun I use a small one bulb tanning lamp with a "new" uv bulb . If you can get to the underside make sure there is nothing wicking up . The sun is the most important part .- Top

With my car I did what Brian said but I also placed a piece of paper towel over the area and heated the glass up with a heat gun, this pulled the remaining brake fluid out of the pores of the fiberglassand then I sprayed the car with gelcoat before priming and painting.- Top

Re: Eliminating paint bubbles possibly due to brake fluid
Jim over the years I have used this method on some pretty nasty looking stuff with good results . It is at least worth a try . All bubbles are brought up by the sun . you need to make sure the underside is clean and wick them out before primer and paint .- Top
