    1963 side emblems 3827158

    Hello together

I am having my 1963 Corvette repainted at the moment.

I recognized that the side emblems on my 1963 are obviously wrong, the red is much too dark and they have the numbers
    3872930 1966 + 3827158 1965 on them.

I read that the red on the side emblems should actually be more of an orange and the part number should be only 3827158.

As I would like to replace these anyway, as they don't look so good anymore, I would like to ask you where to look for the right
3827158 side emblems for my 1963 or are they reproduced with the correct orange color?

    I found this online: https://www.paragoncorvette.com/p-35...mblem-kit.aspx

or are these ones originals?: http://www.ebay.com/itm/1965-1966-Co...7358a4&vxp=mtr

The nose emblem on my car looks right to me, it has the more orange-like red color.

    Thank you for any help.

    Regards

    Rudy

Here is an array of the colors. I had some NOS items painted to get correct color for my 64 since they are the same.
You can see the color difference of the, top, later Flag. That Paragon color looks really close.

You can get the correct color at LIC. www.licorvette.com

        Thank you for your replies.
Especially the blue is much darker on the original side emblem.

So ordering from either Paragon Corvette or LIC should be fine for me to get the emblems with the right color.

Just a quick question about the Ebay link I posted, are those originals? Seem to be a bit faded although.

        Thank you

        Rudy

I am a bit unsure if to buy from Corvette Central or the ones from Paragon Corvette. It's always a bit a problem because of the photos.

I have found that Trim Parts has the most accurate reproductions from gas doors to emblems. They are probably the products that Paragon and others sell.

Reudi, One of the hardest parts to find for my 63 was the real deal 158's. Probably your only recourse is the repros.
The paint color on the right side of the flag is unique also. John

An example of the dark blue on a pair of "158"s.

                    Re: 1963 side emblems 3827158

I purchased my side emblems for my '64 from LIC and they took no deductions at the last regional meet that car was flight judged. The emblem came in a Trim Parts bag.

Since we are on the subject of side emblems; when the car is flight judged the exterior judges look at the inner fender where the side emblems are mounted to see if there is any dum dum or 3M Strip Caulk sealant present that has squished out from around the speed nuts when they were installed. I took a deduct for not having any around my side emblem speed nuts at the last regional that my '64 was judged at.

I assume to make this correct I should remove the speed nuts and wad some 3M Strip Caulk around each of the emblem studs that protrude into the inner fender and reinstall the speed nut so the excess strip caulk is visible around the edge of the speed nuts?

                    Thanks,

                    James West

It's easier if you push some into the speed nut, the end result is the same. I believe this is the way it was originally done.

It's too messy if you start winding it around the emblem stud.

                        James,

I'm not entirely sure that the side emblems ever had caulk under the nuts.

I know that hood mounted emblems on later years had the caulk though but just not sure on side emblems.

                          Harry and Mike,

Thanks for the replies. I'm trying to earn back as many easy points as I can get, they don't get much easier than these. As for it being correct from the factory???

I was also nicked for not having the "RBW" head marked valve cover bolts. The valve covers along with the bolts and associated hardware were what was on the car when I bought it in 1979 and the valve cover gaskets still had orange paint on the edges when I removed them! I can't believer that that was the only supplier for bolts for the valve covers in January 1964, but to get my deducted points back I'll buy and install what the 63/64 TGJM says is correct.

                          Thanks again,

                          James West

                            Rudy,

Here's a pic of an NOS 3827158 side emblem. The color is definitely much different than the later 3872930 emblem for the 1966 model.
Only the 3827158 number appears on the back side.

                              Hello Michael

Thank you for the picture. That one looks really good. But as it is too difficult to find a NOS one in that condition, I will also go for the one from Trim Parts. http://www.trimparts.com/part_detail...oZWFkPQ%3D%3D/

Thank you all for the help
