Having trouble with stalling when braking. idle is 1000, when stepping on brakes engine stalls. disconnected booster, doe's still stalls. put tape around pcv valve and drove 5 miles with no problem. my question is, can I remove the pcv valve and put in a breather in it's place. idle changes every time I drive the car.

That's what Bubba would do, but a real technician would find and correct the problem. Perhaps there's something wrong with the PCV system like an incorrect or broken PCV valve.
The PCV system is important to proper crankcase ventilation. It's a simple system and information is in your CSM.

Re: 67 l71
It sounds like maybe the fuel may be too high in the float bowl, and is sloshing out to flood/stall it. Does it stall when going around a sharp corner fast? I had this happen with a Holley 4-barrel, and had to adjust the Cathedral float. I would suspect a carb problem, best to have the center carb looked at by an expert, this trouble shooter will give you some clues to what might be going on:
But I would get the carb to someone who knows these carbs and have it checked out. Good luck.Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

The motor runs great when driving, only stalls when stopping. It doesn't do it all the time, just most of the time. I changed the pcv valve twice, had the carbs rebuilt, It's like all of a sudden I get a vacuum leak, I think. This has been going on for 3 years. somebody HELP. Please- Top

Re: 67 l71
Make plates to bolt on the manifold in place of the end carbs. Run on just the center carb to trouble shoot. If it doesn't stall on the center carb, replace the end carbs one at a time and see if one or both is causing your problem. Three Holleys are too many to trouble shoot together.- Top
