1967 Hazard and brake light troubles

I cannot get either of my rear hazards or my right brake light to work. My turn signals, running lights, and left brake lights all work. Very strange combination.

Grounds all look good. Brake switch appears to be good. Bulbs good, sockets good.

Could it be in my turn signal switch?

thanks for any and all help. Richie

Typically you loose brake lights and hazards with the turn signal switch. I would bet you will need a replacement. I had the same issue last year.

      Richard,

If you have checked all the bulbs and they are good, the problem is probably with the signal switch.

Here is a wiring schematic of the 67 (and 68) signal switch:

If you can trace the wiring diagram, I think you will find that the problem is in the little cam on the signal switch.

There are three separate circuits which go through the signal switch: the turn signals, hazard flasher, and the brakes. The horn circuit also goes through the signal switch but is just a ground for the horn relay in the front of the 67.
The lighting or running light circuit is separate and has nothing to do with the signal switch.

A basic check of all bulb operation is to turn on your running lights and then hit the hazard switch. All bulbs should be on or flashing.

If you have problems with the rear hazard lights or the one side of the brake lights, it probably has to do with the signal switch and the little cam on it.

Easiest solution would be to get a new signal switch, don't get a cheap foreign one. Shee-Mar, I think, has made a new reproduction which is good in my experience.

When you put the new switch in, don't use the original signal lever screw. Use a shorter screw with a lock washer, so that the signal lever is nice and tight, fore and aft.

I've been through 3 or 4 of these signal switches on my 67 before I got it right, I think
