    Tach cable for 1960

I give up trying to figure out how the tach cable is supposed to be routed under the dash between all the brackets, wires, and WW cables on my '60. Will someone please enlighten me on the proper routing of the tach cable?

    Thanks,

    Steve

What HP and intake? The high HP FI comes from the distributor, low HP FI from the generator. Without looking it up I am not sure about carb cars (I think they are from the generator). We need to know which you have? Good luck, Don H.

Either way is shown in the Assembly Manual, but it can be a bit confusing under the dash. I'm guessing generator driven......

A generator driven tach cable enters the underdash through the hole at the right above the heater, then loops rearward then forward a bit. There should be a metal clip just under the cowl vent that it attaches to. After that clip, it loops towards the cluster, between the harness wiring, wiper cables and oil gauge line and enters the cluster from there. Try to keep the loops gradual and not too sharp.

No C1 Corvette is alike under the dash becasue it's so busy under there. There is no "perfect" way to route everything. Just keep wires away from those awful wiper cables.

        Information I left out - 230 HP/gen driven.

Thanks Richard. Do I understand that it goes between the wiper cables? Trying to keep the sharp bends out is where I seem to have trouble keeping it away from the cables.

I always run the cable in between the wiper cables just before the cluster. Yes smooth soft bends are best.

Like Richard says (good info), and on the generator driven units it is acceptable to rotate the Tach Drive assembly 180* to achieve smooth operation. Again, each car is different. Original cable v. reproduction cable, correct generator v. passenger generator ect... everything makes a slight change in the cable angle in my experience. Dan

Thanks guys, I've got it in there. I may try rotating the tach drive to take a little pressure off the cable. It is still touching one of the ww cables but I think I can persuade it to clear.
