Guys...A neighbor of mine noticed the marking "Special Adhesive" on the underbody after removing the fuel tank on his '74 coupe. Could use some help understanding this marking. Thanks...Clark

Re: Chalk Marking "Special Adhesive" on Underbody above Fuel Tank
My guess would be the indication of an SMC panel as opposed to the earlier (older) polyester. Is the notation hand written?

Thanks Michael. The marking is written in long hand with what appears to be a black marker directly on the panel. I'm not familiar with SMC vs. polyester. What is SMC? Was there a mid-year component change from one type of panel to the other? Appreciate your help with this...Clark- Top

74 was the first year for total SMC usage. That rear deck panel was the last major panel to be changed. The 73 panel was a carry over panel from 68-72 and was polyester. I am sure that notation has to do with the change over.- Top

SMC is an acronym for sheet molding compound. In a nutshell, it packages fiberglass material, resin, and hardening compounds is a roll allowing the user to roll it out, place it in a mold, and mold parts.- Top
