I need to get a correct water pump for a 1957 270 HP. From what I have seen it should be casting 3736493 without support ribs, with a flat back plate. What is confussing me is, I have seen this casting number listed on suppliers sites as being applicable to 1955-56 & 1961-68. Is this an error on the sellers web site or is there a difference is the machining of the casting?

Re: 1957 270 HP water pump
Scott,
This is what I have in my notes about Corvette water pumps:
55 3704911 wo/boss
56 3704911 w/boss
57-60 3736493 wo ribs on drivers side
61-62,E63 3782609
Noland Adam's 53-62 restoration book states the following on page 132: "The 1957 Corvette water pump was part number 3736492 or 3741034, casting number 3736492 or 3736493." I have never seen a pump with a 3736492 casting number.
I have about a dozen water pumps in my collection but both of my 3736493 pumps have ribs, "GM1 TX" and "GM4 T X" (Tonowanda).

Re: 1957 270 HP water pump
Scott I have attached a few pictures of an original 57 water pump. I just removed this from a car I recently purchased. Original car built late July 1957 tucked away in a garage for the past 34 years. Pump still had the original lower radiator hose and corbin clamps. Scott 57 pumps will not be dated.- Top
