I don't know what it's made of Roger but I've been using it for 13+ years, threw out the RTV. I've heard that it's used by some OEM's for oil pans etc. w/o a gasket. Permatex lists it as OEM Specified. What I do know is that I've used it on 2 SBC intakes w/o the rubber gasket, no leaks after 4 years. my 92 LT1 intake, no leaks after 6 years. And I use it a lot on Hewland Gearboxes, Using RTV, you apply and slightly tighten the trans cover, let the RTV sit overnite and retorque. I can't do that at the racetrack where we sometimes change first thru fifth gear ratios, use the Right Stuff to seal the covers and you can drive it immediately. The RTV will leak, the Right Stuff will not. And it is available in a tube for use with a caulking gun which I really like.

        Bill,

I became a Right Stuff convert for just this reason.

Laguna Seca: My bride came off track with oil all over the windshield from a valve cover gasket which had failed. I used Right Stuff to secure a new gasket and she went right back out on track. That was nine years ago and there have been no leaks since.

I also use it in lieu of the intake manifold end gaskets and anywhere else I think I need sealant and adhesive.

        I won't use anything else.

        Jim
