    62 Fuelie, Electric Choke

    My son is involved in prepping his 62 fuelie for judging. The car is an older restoration and achieved a Top Flight a number of years back. He will take it to our local Chapter meet to help fill the field and present a good C-1. I was looking at it a little closer today and was struck by the loose "hap hazard" way the power wire was connected to the electric choke from the ballast resistor. It is just hanging loose and even rubbing the throttle linkage. There is an in-line connector, but no visable means of securing it to anything stable "and correct". Any ideas or pictures?

    Stu, I have always wondered why the choke harness wire was so sloppy. It's also way too long for a neat installation. I looked at a number of unrestored cars and they all have the same appearance.
    No there is nothing to secure it with to make the set up neat.

      Thanks JD. I'm glad you responded. Guess we can cross that one off our list. It's a beautiful red/red car that used to belong to a former NCRS President. Should be a good subject for those with C-1 judging experience.

        You really, really, really want to route the wire away from any moving parts, such as throttle linkage. Given enough time, that rubbing can wear through the wire insulation and create a wire-burning short circuit.

          Look at the assembly manual (prints). I believe that the wire loops around a wire holder below and to the right of the master cylinder.

            Exactly correct! My bow tie car and the one I've had since '76 are both that way. It's a lot easier, once you've unplugged that connector, not to put it back correctly.

              Thanks for the input. We'll get it straightened out. I knew it couldn't be right as it is. Looks like some aftermarket back yard installation.

              Not sure if my son has the assembly manual, as he just got the JG.

                If any one has an assembly maual for the 62 fuelie, I'd appreciate it if you could post a picture of the choke wire installation.

                Thanks;
