    A wondering buyer

    Dear Enthusiasts,

I am not a mechanic by any means but I have always loved old cars. So when I came across this, http://www.classiccarmall.net/index.php?a=2&b=327751956 corvette for sale for $9500 I thought that it was to be to good to be true. The owner of the corvette told me the car was in fine shape. This deal smells but since all good deals smell at first I would like to pursue this car. I was wondering if anybody has heared anything about the car. I was thinking that it would be best to have the car first checked my someone who knows old corvettes to tell me of there are any issues with the car. Any adivice is greatly appreciated.

    Thank you in advance,

    -Dexter Ball

P.S. I hope the link works but I think it says the car has been sold, which I don't think it has. The add number is 32775.

    Dexter:

Which it it a 3 speed or 4 speed? Guess this scammer couldn't read the ad he ripped off.

Be glad you were not the sucker that likely "wired" a deposit. These scams are running rampant and I can assure you that's what this was. No one with a car like that sells it for $9500., period. The ad was a scam and will be replaced with another. The ad is gone, the phone number is fake and the email address has likely been deleted. You were likely "told" everything about the car through email. Never consider a car you don't put your eyes on and see paperwork, like the clear title. Read the disclaimer on that website:

A deal that sounds much better than any being advertised by firms you know to be legitimate - offers that are "too good to be true".
A promoter who is not based locally, provides no telephone number, and uses a PO box or mail drop, rather than a full street address.
A promoter name and/or logo that closely mimics that of a respected brand or business.
Pressure words, such as "urgent" or "final deadline," sprinkled throughout the sales literature.
Pressure, threats or harassment, either in writing, during a phone call, in an e-mail message, or in a personal contact.
Individuals who immediately request or demand for a check, money order or cash to be picked up by a courier or to be sent to a mail drop or PO box
Vague answers or none at all to key questions you ask about the offer; and insistence that you finalize a deal orally or provide personal financial information (such as your social security number or credit card number), without a written contract or other documentation in writing.
These scams are not limited to cars. It is used with other vehicles, such as trucks and motorcycles
Be aware, scams are becoming widespread and are targeting auto sellers on the internet. This Often involves buyers from Nigeria, Africa, Holland and other countries.
Car-dealer fraud is plaguing our country. The tactics being used are so sly that even informed consumers who do their homework are being taken for hundreds, and often thousands, of dollars.

These scam artists prey on their victims by making offers that sellers can't refuse. They offer to purchase items at a price well over what the seller is asking for. A fake money order or fake cashier's check that may look like it is being drawn from a reputable large company such as an airline or credit card company for an even larger amount is sent as payment for the items.
Scammers are also beginning to change their tactics. Some are requesting account information such as routing numbers in order to (supposedly) wire funds. Please do not provide any information without first checking with your financial institution. Scammers have also begun advertising very high-end cars (on the web) with an asking price that is too good to be true. Contact method in the ad is usually a Yahoo or MSN email address. Scammer then instructs buyer to wire, credit or mail a deposit to hold the car.
scam artists send out thousands of these solicitations in hopes of connecting with a less Internet savvy individual. Often the letters are written in broken English, contain misspelled words and are not appropriate for the ad they are responding to. They always offer far more for the purchase than the stated price.

      Re: A wondering buyer

Dexter, Bob is correct. In such cases have the VIN checked by law enforcement and the seller, too. A few years ago I saw a '69 Firebird on ebay I really wanted. The price was about 50% low and the car was literally mint. After asking a few questions the seller told me he had been transferred to Spain and the Spanish govt. was going to charge a large fine if the car was in country in another month without being registered. He also told me he could air freight it for $1,000 to NYC. It was one of those send me the money now scams. I told him I would have a third party of my choice hold the money until I received the car and it cleared title (often faked), etc. Funny, I never heard from him again but I did advise a friend who worked for FBI.

        Welcome as a new member.

Here's what I'm talking about on the car you saw.
        This is the typical scam

Please get back to me with your full name, full address so i can forward your details to Google Wallet in order for you to receive the invoice regarding the terms and conditions of this transaction.

Here is the VIN : E56S003900 and here are the pics of the car :

(if the above link does not work copy and paste it into a new web browser window).
I would like to call you,i am at sea at the moment as i am a marine engineer and due to the nature of my work, phone calls are restricted.Because of my job I can't meet anyone to show the car. I had pre-arranged the deal with Google Wallet so my presence is not necessary , the car is in their possession ready to be delivered. Google Wallet will handle this transaction for me. The car is insured in case of damage and it takes 7 days to be delivered at your door. It will come with all the necessary paperwork (clear title, bill of sale, user's manual, insurance etc). You will receive all the original documents and keys with the car. I signed all the paperwork and the clear title is ready to be transferred to the new owner.

        Hi ,

Sorry for this late reply but I was unable to check my e-mail until now. Thanks for being interested in buying my 1956 Chevrolet Corvette
Convertible. It is in a good condition, no scratches, no damages, never been
implicated in any accidents, no problems at the engine, runs very well. It has
an 8 Cylinder 265ci engine, 9,790miles, Manual, clear title, a perfect car. The
price is not negotiable , $9,500.00 . The only reason I am selling it, because
I divorced my husband and after the divorce I own this car, now as a woman I
        don`t need it...
