    1971 Center Console Restoration

I want to try and refinish the center console and instrument cluster and looking for any advice on refinishing them. First, what is the correct shade of black. Looks to me that it should be a bit shinier than a semi gloss but not gloss black. Any suggestions appreciated. Also, what about masking the chrome edges and lightly bead blasting the painted area or just trying to scuff it with fine steel wool or?? Any and all sugestions Greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sheldon

I painted mine using SEM 39143 Trim Black. I painted the entire consol, then went over the chrome with a razor/x-acto knife to remove the paint.

I used the old, original 5-ball Krylon semi-flat black. The old formula is available through industrial coatings outlets.

I did mine the same way, also using SEM Trim Black. I LOVE this paint! I used a squared off wooden coffee stirrer (thank you Starbucks) before the razor blade. Works best if you scrape the excess paint off soon after the paint dries to the touch.

How did you prep the parts for painting? Bead blast or just had sanding?

Paint stripper and then wax & grease remover. No sanding needed.
