    NOS Fiberglass

When wa GM fiberglass panels such as fenders and upper surrounds available at the dealer? When did aftermarket panels become the only option?

If i remember right, i think you could order mid year surrond panels in the mid 1990's from gm.

I am curious because a car I am interested in has been owned by the seller for 37 years. He said when he bought it all four lips had been shaved and he had all four fenders replaced at the bonding strips.

Each part was discontinued individually as supplies became depleted, or not resupplied. It happened over a long period of time. Some parts never were available in service or were available for only a short time in the original production configuration.
Many parts were resupplied, many parts were re-made in fits all form. So the answer is complicated.

I bought all my GM panels in the 80s quarters , surround , fenders , lower valance , BB hood , and all bonding strips . all were original type fiberglass except the left lower fender and parking light panel . They were SMC . I later traded the new hood for an original 65 BB hood.

NOS glass differs based on year.
            63&4 - white
            65&6 - grey
            67 - black (I had a surround with the box I believe dated 1991)
Then there was SMC (I had a surround with the box dated in 1995)
