    C3 Shift Boot

My 68 March build has the rubber shift boot. At what time in 68 did it switch to the leather boot. Thanks. Jeff

NEVER is the answer. The 1968 shifter boot was always rubber and differs from the 1969 boot which was also rubber, too.

The leather boot was first used for 1970 as John mentions BUT it became SERVICE for 1968-69 in July, 1970. So, if you find a leather boot on a 1968 or 1969, it was a SERVICE replacement after July, 1970.

Thank you John and Joe. Question , off subject but the A arm shields where stapled on in 68. I also heard that it had the push type pins later on in 68. If so, would you happen to know when that change occurred ? Thanks, again.

Jeff my original owner 1968 built in FEB has the stapled A arm shields. Replaced the deteriorated original rubber shifter boot over 23 years ago with the C3 later year leather replacement from GM. Have also replaced the lower shifter rubber seal that mounts to the transmission tunnel.

Question on the shift boot for 68 Corvettes. My car is a late build (June) and has a 2-fold boot as found on a 69 Corvette. I
presume it is possible for a late 68 to have a 69 boot on it but is this extremely rare? Has anybody else run into this? Thanks
in advance. BTW: When car got the Bloomington Gold award the interior judge did not take any points off for this because it
was a very late build date car. (This is what he told me)

Thanks Jim, my February 68 also has the staples, but the June built 68 I'm restoring has the pins. Wondering if that's correct.

Any chance the dust shield staples and shift boot change are in the new 1968-69 TIM&JG?

Terry: Did look at the 68-69 TIM&JG and it indicated the change happened with the Model Year change. It did not say if any late 68's had the
two fold 69's boot on it. Have you seen any?? Anybody else?? Thanks in advance-Larry

My June 68 car had a rather deteriorated 2-folder on it. I have no insight as to originality, except for the condition.
