BFG Black Wall Tire... Which Side is Mounted to the Outside???

I am going through my judging sheets from the last time my '64 was judged at a regional meet and correcting all the wrongs that I can before the 2014 NCRS National Convention. I was told by the judges that my repro BFG black wall tire is mounted incorrectly on my knock-off wheel spare. I've attached some pictures of how it was judged and welcome any help in correctly determining if the tire needs to be reversed on the wheel.

    Best Regards,

    Jim
Your first picture shows the tire ID stamp mounted on the outside. I do not have a 1964 AIM, but the AIMs that I am familiar with have instructions on the tire mounting page (UPC 10) to mount the tires with the ID stamp to the inside. Check your 1964 AIM UPC 10 and proceed accordingly.

Jim, As Terry states the tire date code generally is on the back side, Not that it makes any difference when driving with the tire mounted that way.

        Terry,

When I returned home tonight I did in fact check section 10 of the 1964 AIM and found that it does reference the tire serial number being mounted to the inside. Funny thing is that there is hardly any information other than BF Goodrich Sinvertown, the tire size, load range, ply, and inflation data on the side that should be on the outside. I'll take it to a friend of mine that has an old Coats tire machine and have him turn it around for me.

        Thanks,

        James West

I much prefer the modern "touchless" tire machines, especially with that wheel you have -- but whatever you are comfortable with.

It makes me feel warm and fuzzy that the judges made the right call.
