Research I've seen shows the "IK" suffix assigned to the L88/M22 combination for 1966, with Tonawanda records showing ZERO produced. I think Al Grenning is going to touch on this at our Regional Judging Seminar at Pro Team on November 9th.
FWIW: Been to several M22 seminairs with Al and research shows that Townawanda made a total of 2 L72-M22 engines. But just because they where made
does not mean they ever where installed at St.Louis. Larry

Yes it is absolutely counterfeit, a perfect example of deceit and fraud, it appears they took a shipping data report and had a window sticker produced and aged to reflect its information, that is done for one reason and one reason only. I suggest everyone take note of the seller, it probably is not the first time and most likely won't be the last.

Allen Colvin's book shows an M22 from a 1965 Corvette (VIN 18966) and documentation that it was original. The car was a 396 racer that also had a big tank according to its documentation. Colvin also has a Muncie M22 production chart showing 32 M22's shipped to St. Louis for 1965 Corvettes with 25 more for service.

I saw the 1966 Penske Sunoco Corvette at a vintage road race years ago, and the then-owner had a binder full of documentation showing its original sale to Penske which I am pretty sure listed the M22. It was presented as a prototype L-88 with iron heads. However, that would only differ from a L-72 by higher compression pistons, wilder cam and the cut-out in the intake manifold. Most of those things would probably have been legal in SCCA at the time even as over the counter GM parts.

I don't doubt that the paperwork showed the M22 transmission. Several cars rolled off with that transmission in 66. I think I've seen some of that paperwork years ago. Still no paper on L88 though.

There is some very interesting paperwork floating around on '66 supposedly L/88 cars, UNTIL you lay it beside original paperwork. At BG several years ago there was a nice notebook full of paperwork that was purported to be original to a certain car. That flew until two well known Corvette hobbyists showed up with their original paperwork. Seems they must have used a special font on the L/88 tank sticker because it was obviously different from the other two. The font on the other two were identical to each other, but markedly different from the "L/88"

Was this the Penske Corvette or were there others claiming to be prototype L-88's?

I asked the seller for a better picture of the window sticker, including the top of it. I got the picture, and the upper right hand corner is torn off.

Surprise! Surprise! even if the corner had been there and the number was correct - as John Hinckley. said "that window sticker, by the way, is as fake as a 3-dollar bill."

I sent a question to the seller yesterday, and again a few minutes ago, asking if the window sticker is original or repro. No reply yet.

At least he didn't stick it to a dated side window to prove it was real similar to the Black/RED 67 435 at the BG auction that had a tank sticker pasted to a piece of a shinny tank. LOL I think that car had at least 3 different stickers at different times.

Finding it interesting that someone so intent on restoration/ "documentation" would take an AO Smith body and fill the back exhaust panels to add sidepipes and add knock off style wheels. Guess I'm a purist.

I was interested in the window sticker so I asked the seller twice about it being either repro or original. I have not received an answer. That in itself makes you question the validity of the documentation. --- Also, tried multiple times to report lack of response to ebay.

                                Questions:

I'm looking for a 66 big block. Where can the car be seen? Is the engine and transmission original to the car? Is the paperwork original and any other supporting paperwork? How do you think it would do if I had it judged NCRS? Thanks

                                Answers:

The motor was with car when we got it. I think it would do OK at judging. There are a few things that need to be changed to be absolute correct. Alternator, fuel pump. Call if you want to make offer. Paperwork was with car as well. Motivated seller
