Engine and Carb ID# stamp for '62 327 250 hp

My neighbor asked for help checking/recording ID numbers for his '62 327, 250hp, 3sp. Fawn Beige w/two tops.

VIN indicates car assembled ~3rd week March 1962. Was able to gather most other numbers, but engine #s threw me and I'm not that familiar with how C1s were marked. Engine stamp was "FOII15S", which I interpret as Flint, Jan 15th, but no year, and, no VIN #!! I presume these cars had a VIN stamped on engine, right? And what do you make of this number? What does the "S" mean?

Has correct block cast number, but too dirty and couldnt see a date if there was one.

Correct intake manifold 3783244, which implies 250 hp. No tag on distributor for another idea of engine date. All other numbers I found aling with late march

Also, has Carter 4bl carb, think its WCFB but cant find ID numbers on it. Supposed to be 3191s, according to my book. Where should the number stamp be?? ...assuming there is one.

Just a guess, the S is for automatic transmission. This might be a passenger car block?

There are too many digits prior to the suffix. You might check that. S is passenger car, base 327, power glide. There should definitely be a VIN on the pad. 3191S would be on a foil tag on one of the upper screws on the carb. The block is almost certainly a replacement block.

            Cecil,
I'm well aware of that. There should definitely be a VIN on it if it is an original Corvette motor, which was my response to Mel's asking if there should be.

Thanks guys. Sounds like hes clearly got a replacement engine. And what I hear is his stamp correlates to a passenger car 327 250hp w/Power Glide transmission. I take it the passenger car engines didn't have VINs stamped on their pad (believe I read somewhere Corvette engines were only ones GM marked with VIN in 62??). Did I have the FOII5 part right as Jan 15? (good catch Mike...too many I's). And does that #/S correlate to 1962 passenger cars?

Anyway, told him I didnt think it was right w/o VIN # on the pad, and that "S" at the end didnt line up with the numbers in my NCRS Spec Guide book, but I promised to check further. He'll be disappointed, but think I prepped him in our discussion the other nite. He obviously was not aware it wasnt original when I questioned it.

Yep, 250 hp, 4 bbl carb, powerglide trans, in a passenger car. And as stated earlier, most passenger car engines in this time frame did not have the VIN stamped on the engine pad.
