      You know, come to think of it, I did drain only 4 qts. I filled a gallon container with the used oil. I then refilled with a gallon of fresh oil and checked the stick, reading at the fill line. Then added one more qrt. to read at full. But that still leaves the question: Why would it read spot on full line just before I started it, and then, read over that line after 2 hours?
