Does anyone have a diagram or picture of the clutch bellcrank assembly including the large spring, the smaller anti-rattle spring, pushrods and clutch fork they can attach for viewing ? My 57 was taking apart 50 years ago and I purchased as a basket case, (okay not the sharpest pencil in the box) and now finally re-assembling the parts. Having trouble with the large spring and how it attaches to the bellcrank. Tried Paragon, CC, the AIM...pictures not detailed enough. Any help would be appreciated, Thanks, Bill

Photo on the right below shows the '58-'62 clutch linkage at the frame end, '57 is similar. Photo on the left shows the linkage at the inboard end.

Re: 57 clutch bellcrank assembly
Connect the "Godzilla" spring at both ends (clutch pushrod disconnected) and use a 10"- 12" crescent wrench over the top of the Z-bar to get leverage to pull the Z-bar into position against spring tension to connect the pushrod. The adjustment procedure for the over-center mechanism is described in Section 6R in the ST-12 manual.- Top

Re: 57 clutch bellcrank assembly
John H. Thanks for the picture and diagram. Do you have a pic of the "Godzilla" spring attached to the Z-bar ? I'm also guessing the 57 spring might be longer than a 58-62 because of the way it attaches (uses a hook a each end)? Or, are the springs interchangeable. When I attempt to attach the spring to frame and z-bar, the bellcrank rotates and pulls the clutch fork out and away from pivot point (the "clutch ball stud") in the bell housing. The clutch pedal push rod is not attached at this time. (the body is not on the frame). Is that normal or do I have alignment issue ?- Top

John H. - Also wondering what would be a good "preliminary" adjustment for the clutch rod ?- Top

Last time I did this was about 12 years ago (and I sold the '57 ten years ago); the '56-'57 spring is different than the '58-'62 spring. Try it with the pedal pushrod connected and the clutch fork pushrod disconnected. The clutch adjustment procedure and spec is in Section 6R of the ST-12 manual.- Top
