    1957 voltage regulator

What is the difference between straight line 119000 dtd. 7E and 119001 dtd. 6K thanks

The "000" regulator is a '57 passenger car piece for use with 25 Amp generators. The "001" regulator could have been used on either '57 passenger cars or Corvettes and is for use with 30 Amp generators.

        Re: 1957 voltage regulator

I have a "1119002" regulator dated "7E" which I believe is original equipment for a 57 Chevrolet. The regulator is stamped "1119002", not divided on two lines like later regulators.

57 Corvette correct vintage 001 regulators are difficult to find. As i recall..the passenger cars that had AC used a similar 30 amp version..but not sure if it carried the same 001 stamp. There is a guy on ebay that sells Cadillac parts that advertises restored Cadillac regulators. My guess is a quality regulator restorer could make a 57 Corvette correct version.

I sometimes wonder if the regulators installed on 57 Corvettes were production line only.

I believe that the 1119001 regulator was only factory installed on 57 Corvettes and not sold over the counter.

              David,

001 regulators with two lines were sold over the counter and 001 regulators with one line like your photo were installed on Corvettes at the factory

                Re: 1957 voltage regulator

I have 2 volt regulators that I had converted several months ago to 35amp by a gentleman who has recently deceased (he was in his 90s). One is a 111900 and the other is 1119261. Other than the numbers, both are the same and SHOULD work fine with the stock 1102043 generator on the 56. Right? I've not yet installed either one yet because the one currently on the 56 is working just fine.

Anyone have any idea what a "nice" original/mint 9001 regulator dated 7B is worth? Numbers are all in 1 line as photo of the 6H one above

I've sold a couple of 001's recently. $250 (needed to be done) $325 for a rebuilt unit.

                      Gary,

I have a regulator stamped "1119" over "001E" (2 lines) and dated "2A" (Jan. 1962)". After doing a little research I found that the 1962 Canadian Pontiacs came with a 1119001E regulator.

Chevrolet Parts History indicates that GM # 1119001 was replaced with GM # 1119261 in July 1960 for parts sold over the counter.

Dave, isn't the thread about a '57 regulator? I know for sure that applies to '57 regulator, Past '57 not my subject matter. Gary....

                          Gary,

I guess I got a little off track.

My 1957 Chevrolet Parts Catalog (Mar. 1957) does not list a 1119001 regulator in Gr. 2.500 so how could the 1119001 regulator be sold over the counter in 1957? The 1957 parts catalog lists GM # 1119003 as the regulator part number for 56-57 ALL, CORV. and described as "(stamped 1119003)(30 amp.)". GM # 1119002 (35 amp.) is listed for the 57 PASS.

On '57 passenger cars the only application for the 9001 regulator was on the fuel injected models, which came with a 30 Amp generator (1102042). AC passenger cars, for reasons that escape me, used a different regulator (but also for a 30 Amp generator). Power steering generators, initially specified at 30 Amps, used Yet Another regulator.
