    Re-manufactured Holley Finish vs. Orignals

I just received 3 new Holley 2 bbl carbs for my '69 and see that the finish differs greatly between the end carbs and the center and even varies a bit between the two end carbs. The end carbs have a much more gold ano finish than the center. Does anyone know if this was the case of the originals that were made in the 60's? The ones I see at the shows that have been rebuilt and re-finished appear to have a consistent gold ano finish.
    Thanks,
    Jack

The ones you see at the shows are over restored. The originals had a slightly different finish on all the separate parts. After all they were processed in different baths at different times, and perhaps even in different plants. Finish consistency was not high on their QC list. One of these days the judges will become attuned to this and begin to deduct for consistent finishes on all the carburetor and alternator parts.

Thanks for the input Terry. I believe you're answering my question and more but to be sure, are you also saying that it would be normal to have the same carb part type, for example the carb bowl, to have a different finish on different carbs such that my center carb bowl differs from my end carb bowl?

THANK YOU Terry, I have been instructing that very thing in the Advanced Judging Schools. Maybe in the future new student judges will apply their learnings.....! With all the details that NCRS has been so picky about I just don't understand why this has slid under the wire.

NO PRACTICAL WAY to apply this knowledge. Plating varies from piece to piece due to the chemicals, temps, time in the vats. I ain't gonna say what else I think about this.

Dick, you know as well as I much of the carb finishes on the show field are way way over restored. Time in the tanks was held to a minimum in the day.

Yes, absolutely. Sorry I was not more concise. You happened to hit one of my pet peeves.

It also depends on how fresh the chemicals are.
