    69 dipstick

    I'm pretty sure the dipstick is wrong on my 427 . It is a 3981088 which is apparently correct for an early 454. Here is a photo of the dipstick tube. The cardboard tube at the top of the dipstick is just about level, and is about 1/2" above the top of the valve cover.

    Plan to change the oil tomorrow (after the first 500 miles) and find out for sure, but does this look like a stock tube, or the correct tube for this dipstick? Can't see a part number on the tube

    Re: 69 dipstick

    Roger,

    The 1969 Corvette AIM lists the dipstick as GM # 3959158 and is used with upper tube # 3870324. My 1969 Corvette Parts Catalog (Oct. 1969) describes the 3959158 dipstick as follows:
    A = 17 13/32" ans B = 19"

    In Nov. 1970 GM # 3959158 was replaced by GM # 3981088 as per Chev. Parts History.

    The 3981088 dipstick (A = 23 13/64" and B = 24") is to be used only with upper tube # 3981089.

    As far as I know original 1969-1971 dipsticks were stamped "USE GM 6041-M-QUALITY MS OIL". Dipsticks made in the 1980's usually have a GM part number stamped on them.
