    Misc. Engine Paint Questions

    I've checked the TIM & JG and it doesn't say. So for a 66 327/300 ...

    1. Would the bolt and retainer for the distributor be painted engine color?
    2. Would the bolt(s) that holds the ignition shielding and plug wire brackets be painted?

And finally, was the distributor installed during painting, just covered? Would there be any over-spray on the under side of it? I seem to remember hearing that or reading that somewhere.

    Thanks
    Rob

Dist was instaled pior to painting. I think they used some sort of make shift cover to put over it. So it should have orange over spray. Along with the bolt and wire hold down

      Thanks Keith.

So ... they would remove the bolts for the brackets, install the brackets and reinstall the bolts. Correct? One would expect to see evidence of the bolt being turned (paint chips, marks, etc.).

My distributor has orange overspray on the bottom and I have left it.

      Trying to get it right.

I can't answer the shielding bolt question. If the bolts are called out in the AIM then there should be no paint as St. Louis workers installed the bolts

Good point Keith, thanks. I'll check the AIM.

            Rob -

This item was missed in the Assembly Manual every year, but the rear intake bolt on each side was removed at St. Louis to install the plug wire/upper shielding supports and re-installed; to be really anal, that bolt on each side would be painted, but would show wrench/socket marks.

You made me laugh out loud - thanks! My car is far from "anal" perfect ... trust me. The funny thing is that the way I do things those bolts will have to come out for some reason or another (usually my screw up) and with the marks I make, they'll look right!
