    Non DOT tire value

What is the value of an original 7.75x15 Non DOT Goldline tire for a retail sale?

Recently saw a guy who wanted $1100 for a Redline, worn a bit, but good for judging mounted on correct wheel. Not sure that means anything for value of Goldline.

Excellent condition and still mounted on the original KH knock off.

More evidence of why we need to change the "non DOT tire" judging rule. Corvettes are made to drive not sit on unsafe "original' tires.

With all the respect in the world, I disagree. Non-DOT tires are what these cars came with. I would never drive on Non-DOT tires, but for judging I have a set. The judging standards are not guided by safety, prices, gas, etc...The standards are simple...as the car rolled off the assembly line. Period. If we start modifying our judging rules to factor in items like "safest car presented", that completely erodes the whole idea of what the NCRS is all about. There are plenty of other organizations and clubs that judge cars based on appearance, customization, lap times, etc....but the NCRS is about originality...and that's what makes all of us a little nutty....as we are chasing perfection knowing we will never attain it....but the chase is really fun....and very educational....and most of us really enjoy the compliments from judges when they note a car that does in fact have Non-DOT tires...It's a pride thing. Again, I say this with all the respect, but I am a hardened NCRS advocate...and think the goals, standards, judging criteria and guidelines that we use to judge a car are perfect (not flawless, but perfect). "Original" is NOT subject to 45 interpretations or definitions. That's not to say we know everything about what truly is "original", but the learning curve doesn't water down the goal - which is "Original"....I LOVE learning something new everyday about these cars...Cheers....ARA

A few year ago I saw an orignal Goldline tire in VG to Exc condition on an original '65 KO rim (VG to Exc condition too) at Carlisle. My memory is they guy was asking 4 or 5 thousand $ for it. I believe the KO rim aloneat the tiome was worth between 1-2 thousand $ itself. In addition, I know a member that put together a set of original General Jet Air II whitewalls for his car over several years of shopping the internet. I think he paid between $100 to $700 for each ann averaged about $150 per tire.

Ralph, Some 1968 owner with a car built prior to Jan, 1, 1968 may be interested in them. That is if they hold air.

I have no desire to rain on Ralph's parade, however I must point out a paragraph at the end of the tire section of Standard Deduction section of the NCRS Judging Reference Manual:

"Condition scoring note: If the condition of any tire, including spare, appears to constitute a potential safety hazard in the operation of the vehicle, such as deterioration, damage, or excessive tread wear, condition deductions up to the full amount for that tire or all such tires must be made." (Page 31)

I think that the wheel/tire is worth 2 to 3k.
