Yes, they did - it was the only way to carry a Chevy V-8 until 1968.

Yup, the exhaust manifolds are loaded with paint.
It would be impossible to get orange paint on the area around the manifolds without completely covering at least the upper & outer surfaces of the manifolds.
The pressure feed spray guns operate at 60-70 PSI and have a spray pattern around 12" wide so it would be impossible to "paint around the manifolds".- Top

This is a very early picture. At some point, I believe the engine assembly order changed and the exhaust manifolds were installed after engine painting.In Appreciation of John Hinckley- Top

Beginning with the 1966 model year, for small blocks, the exhaust manifolds were no longer included in the engine paint process.- Top
