I have a 1965 coupe manual trans. with a build date of June 18 1965. It has a HE engine code and I was told it is a 327-300hp, it has the 300hp heads and a 3721 AFB carb. But the 1965 chart says HE is a 250hp and a HF is a 300hp. In 1966 HE was a 300hp. Being a June car could this be stamped like a 1966? Was the 250hp still offered in June after the 396 was introduced? Thanks for any info.......

Re: 1965 327-300hp HE engine code
What size exhaust does it have? All the '65 327 engines used the "double hump" heads, 250 used 2" exhaust and 300 used 2 1/2 inch exhaust. Someone could have changed intake and carb or???Bill Clupper #618- Top

Actually 250 hp 2" pipes, 300-350-365-375 2 1/2" in '65 Different exhaust manifold castings also to match, except Powerglide which is another can of worms.Bill Clupper #618- Top

Re: 1965 327-300hp HE engine code
Have not heard that the 327/250 was not offered in June of 1965. I found two in my files 21067 F0615HE and 22405 F0630HE. Are the 300/327 heads dated coded for your car? The 396/425 was very popular and considering it was only available in the last 5 months of production and produced 2157 units. Thats almost what the total for the year ( about 2551) for the 327/250. Post a photo assemble stamp.- Top

Re: 1965 327-300hp HE engine code
It appears Bill & I are both right - sort of. I knew my '65 had 2" and was not noted as wrong when it was judged. According to the current 1965 Technical Information Manual and Judging Guide, page 153 states that base engine and 300 hp with powerglide use 2" exhaust (mine is a powerglide), all other including 300 hp with manual transmission used 2 1/2" exhaust. The chart for exhaust manifolds is on page 111 and there are many different casting numbers depending on hp and options. Of course Bill is more right than me because the original post noted the manual transmission - sorry. Don H.- Top
