    67 Distributor lead wire

doing the rebuild on dads original 247 distributor I am in need of a new lead wire. dad bought the complete harness kit from a major suppler and the wire that came for it is way to long and the ends are not copper. does GM still sell the correct one?

    thanks

What would be the possibility of removing the copper terminal ends from the old wire and shorten the new wire to the correct length and using it?

Thought about doing that if we can't get the correct one

NAPA offers one and you should also install the ground wire repair kit because the solder joint on the breaker plate will eventually fail. Like most of these electrical parts for old cars, they are likely made by a single vendor, but available in a half a dozen or more "brands", so you can cross reference to any brand once you have a part number for one brand.

Chances are what you got is just the generic part at an inflated price.

I don't know the lengths, but the data is on the NAPA Web site.

If you can find a proper appearing terminal, you can shorten the wire and with a little practice with a common crimping tool nearly duplicate the OE crimp. Decades ago you could buy these OE style terminals from Delco, but I dont know of a current source.

You might also be able to undo the crimp, shorten the wire, and recrimp the terminal. I've done this with some success. The recrimp is not perfect, but it might fool some judges.
