58 trunk spears
Who reproduces 58 trunk spears? If there are/have been several over the years, what are the strengths/weaknesses of each. Need a pair for a car that has been sitting since 1974. It will only be a nice driver when done.

Mike,
I bought a few sets from a guy in Texas which were cast aluminum.
I had them plated and they were perfect for a nice driver car.
One advantage is that they were not heavy like the brass reproductions.
Now brass plates beautifully but a good plater can do a good long lasting job on aluminum.
I will have to search for info on the manufacturers info and hopefully I will find it. -

Before I found originals, I tried the aluminum repro's and found them to be junk. Due to the casting process, they have multiple crevices which can be impossible to be filled, even by the best plating guy. I returned a set, received new ones, and they had the same defects. I would avoid them. Brass reproductions are better, although obviously heavier than originals. Buzz (his full name and address have been posted previously), who is located in Pennsylvania, does an excellent job with the brass spears. Only disadvantage is that if he doesn't have a pair immediately available, it may take a while for him to make them and send them out for plating. His last price for a plated pair was about $1200.Comment
