Re: F.I. Unit plating
The plating I find on relatively unmolested FI units appears to my eye to be cadmium. Side by side, cadmium has a very "white" color, almost like silver, while zinc has a "blue" color. Because of what I believe I see, when I have the pieces and parts re-plated, I specify cadmium.
I've seen a few FI units which have random pieces which have had a gold chromate conversion: An upper fuel meter bracket on one, an enrichment diaphragm cover on another, an NOS 4360 air meter on which all the cold enrichment linkage was gold cad. One 7320 FI unit had a gold chromate fuel meter bowl. I have no explanation for these anomalies, but they sure were purdy.

Re: F.I. Unit plating
I really don't. Sorry. The shop I use is a large industrial plater (they could dip a complete automobile frame, if need be) and they just do me a favor by agreeing to process my pitiful little piles of parts.

Re: F.I. Unit plating
Jerry, On my last 7017375 unit I used Beringer Plating in Ohio (330-633-8409) for cad plating and was very satisfied with the results. If I remember right (very dangerous to rely on memory) John D. recommended them. Good luck, Don H.- Top

Re: F.I. Unit plating
EXACTLY!
John DeGregory recommended Beringer to me some years ago and I have been 110% satisfied with the finish and quality of their work. BUUUUUUUUUUUT, the wait time may be 6+wks. I don't think you would be disappointed with Beringer.
Oh ya, you will need to inventory and provide a count of the parts that you send them.- Top
