    "62 Fuel line replacement

Has anyone had any luck replacing the main fuel line from the tank to the fuel pump on a '62 with the body on?

With the front splash shield removed, it appears possible, but I'm hung up getting the kick up at the rear of the fuel line out between the body and the frame at the adjacent body mount. Disconnect the body and raise it a few inches???

You need to access the fuel sender/tank from above. You can then replace all that is needed from the top of the tank forward.

I'm talking about the main fuel line that runs along the frame, from below the tank up to the fuel pump on the engine.

        Jerry,

I've done several on the C-1 cars and it's not a big deal like it is on the C-2's. The front to rear line is completely visible as it runs along the inside of the frame rail. Get a new line from one of the vendors (it will come coiled with the proper armor spring) and carefully unroll it and try to approximate the old line (once removed). It will go in starting at the rear and working forward, then work further forward than final position in order to get clearance for the rear portion of the line around the rear mount and up to the union for the second line to the tank. Usually the second line is good since it's protected and I don't always change them, but it's your call. That way you can skip removing the fuel tank cover. Also, get a set of NEW mounting clips unless yours are perfect to avoid future rust problems and for a better final appearance. Dan

On a '62, no, but on my '60, yes and it wasn't a big deal.

While I'm sure there are some slight differences between the lines of the two years, they have to be substantially similar. Definitely remove the front splash shield. Beyond that, I don't remember there being any particular issues with either removal or installation of the new line. For certain it wasn't necessary to add any new bends to the old original line to get it to clear everything comfortably.

          Good luck,

          Jim

I just removed the fuel line on my 59 and other than disconnecting the small second piece from the sender to the main line, ther wasn't an issue. I believe on the 62, there is a rubber hose that replaces the second small steel line to the main line.
