    DashPad Shade

I bought black vinyl dye for the interior of my 1963 swc from Corvette America and it appears to be flat. Should it be semi gloss or flat on the dashpad?

Bob, Mine was black and more of a semi-gloss or semi-flat. Too glossy and it will be a reflective hazard.

If you're spraying in humid weather keep in mind that anything with gloss in it will "cloud" up. I've been fighting humidity just painting engine pieces lately down here in FL.

Bob, you should give it a coat of Corvette America's Interior Clear Semi Gloss after the base color. I found it gave my 67 the exact interior sheen I was looking for without being reflectively glossy. You'll be very happy with that combo on vinyl.

My experience lately with interior dyes or colors is also that they come out flat and need the clear as Tom suggests.

I don't paint anything during the warm humid summer months here in central Florida. As a matter of fact, I don't hardly do anything automotive or otherwise here until at least late October or early November. Then we have at least a good 6 months of perfect project weather. It's also fun to read all the traffic on the discussion board from all those northerners who are stuck in their cabin for the winter planning their spring projects.

Bob, tempratures affect drying times, which in turn affect gloss (as does humidity). A good rule of thumb is the old house paint rule...Don't apply the coating either below 50* or above 80*....
