    1957 Tailshaft stamping--any input?

This is the tailshaft housing on a mutt T-10 that I have. Case is 63, sidecover is 62. What do you think of this stamping? I know it should be a casting date, but this obviously has not been in the hands of someone trying to make it "numbers correct". It's also clearly not a guy at a machine shop with a few number stamps--it's a quality stamp and of even depth, spacing, etc. What do you make of this? Sorry the first photo is upside down--no idea why.
    Thanks

Mike-I have recorded 100's of dates from T-10's over the last 40 years. The first T10-7A tail housing I have recorded is 10-27-57. The earlier tail housings were cast T10-7, not "7A". I have an original tail housing dated 4-6-57, (not 4 06 57) and it is cast, not stamped. And, the real early tails had no dates at all. For what it's worth.........

No joy Rev Mike. That tail shaft looks like an Uncle Billy special.

Very rare to have a '57 tail shaft dated earlier than mid to late April as Wayne points out.

So Uncle Billy of Lubbock would take a reasonably hard to get 58 tail shaft housing and turn it into an obviously bogus 57! That's clear thinking.

Once upon a time there was a guy in southern California that would take a T10-7A tailhousing and turn it into an undetectable '57 T10-7 tailhousing. Gary....
