Hello, I have a problem with my amp gauge jumping only at idle. When I am cruising it seems to be fine. The car starts and runs perfectly. We have checked the alternator internally and regulator and all seem to work and be normally. The gauge is original equipment from factory.Any suggestions ??? Thank You

Re: 67 Amp Gauge is jumping
Hi Enzo
i had the same problem with my 67 amp gauge. I had my entire cluster and all gauges restored by Roger Scott. I recall he told me at the time that the gauge has oil in it which leaks out over time causing the gauge needle to flutter.

Re: 67 Amp Gauge is jumping
Another thing is that the voltage regulator has points that open & close to regulate the voltage and if they get slugish they will cause the needle to jump as you are seeing the action of the points energizing the field of the altinator. When you have more RPM's the points in the regulator are moving faster to regulate.
Now that can be called "the normal & ab-normal opperetion of the regulator".
