    1966 4-speed Shifting problems

    Hello to all;

    I just bought a 66' 390 horse with M-20 4 speed. The car was fully restored a few years ago (2005-2010), and has only been only driven 5 miles sine the restoration. The entire car was rebuilt, including the tranny, shifter etc. My problem is the fact that I cannot get the car into first or second gear. It shifts into 3rd and fourth and reverse without hesitation, but the first and second gates are impossible to throw into. I do not went to force the shifter. Any ideas why this is occurring ?

    Will it go into gear with the engine running, or does this happen when both turned off and running?

        Gates is an alignment problem having to do with the adjustment length of the rod from the shifter that activates 1-2, if I'm interpreting you correctly that you cant get the shifter to engage while stopped. easy fix, there is a slot in the shifter that can lock all the levers in neutral position and adjust the rods to engage the levers on the trans from that point. Covered in the service manual nicely.

          Thank you gentlemen. Mr. Clupper; would it be possible to call you in order to discuss this item, as well as a couple of other questions I have regarding the car? If yes, kindly confirm a phone number and convenient time to call. Thank you! David
