I have a 65 396 with factory side exhaust . It has the triangle heat shields without the rubber on the outside of the frame . It does not have the inside shields .There are small holes in the frame about 1/8 or 3/16 inch and the bracket on the floor pan but there is no indication of a shield ever being bolted on ? Seems like I read somewhere that 65 BB with side exhaust did not come with both sets of shields ? Does anyone know for sure .

I've never seen anything like that - as far as I know, every unit got the inboard large triangular splash shields, regardless of engine.- Top

Re: 65 side exhaust heat shields
Bill, I agree with John on this one. Although the splash shield were one of the first items discarded by a lot of first and second owners there is no mention of deletion of the shield in the AIM and I do not recall any documentation from GM to that effect.- Top
