Not really a Corvette story but related closely enough that I wanted to share it here. Last Friday I received an email from a gentleman who had done some research and found out that I was the owner of Zora Duntov's 72 Chevelle. I confirmed that I was the owner and had been for a long time. He stated he had found the build sheet for that car many years ago in a binder full of papers at the Corvettes of Carlisle swap meet. He hadn't thought much about the sheet at the time but hung onto it since it included the name Duntov on it. He stashed it away and totally forgot about the document until last week. He was looking through a folder full of pictures of a car he restored 20 years ago and the sheet was in there. He Googled the Duntov Chevelle and located me. Long story short, he indeed did have the real build sheet for my car. He sent it to me and it came yesterday. He charged me less for it that a new pair of shoes would cost. A true car guy who did the right thing. I would personally like to thank fellow NCRS member Paul Schuster. Body shop manager for Stadium GM in Salem, Ohio. This document pretty much completes my document collection of this car back to the original cash receipt, POP and original title. Thanks again Paul !!! Much appreciated.

Tom,
That is a great story and I really enjoyed reading it. This is what most of us wish we could be a part of and what the hobby really is about. Thanks for sharing!
Congrats!

If I had had that build sheet, and located the owner of the car, I would have GIVEN it to him and paid for the postage out of my own pocket. Doesn't come across as a REAL car guy to me.- Top

You know Tom, I'm the same. I have found papers, stickers, invoices and everything else for people for years. Never charged a dime. Always was glad to do it. I have had lot's of good items for my cars come my way and always feel I should pay. The money I paid for the sheet was cheap and more a token of appreciation. Paul didn't hold the sheet hostage and even sent me a color scan of it in advance. I was thrilled to get it.Tom Hendricks

Re: Build sheet reunited with car story. This one is mine !!
Great story! Always nice to get a care package from a previous owner. After having the research done on the numerous previous owners of my '67, I got a great package of all the original glove box materials, free of charge too. But, then again, a supposed window sticker didn't turn out so good, and was a bit too expensive considering that, but you win some and you lose some, and sometimes it rains.
Thanks for sharing the story Tom. But you would have thought Duntov, with all his insider knowledge would have sprung for a '70 when he could have got the LS6. That '72 BB was a ghost of its' former self, right? Must be more behind the story?Big Tanks In the High Mountains of New Mexico- Top

Don't know what sparked his interest in the 72. I'm glad he didn't buy an LS6. If he would have, I have a feeling it would have been way out of my league. I don't care what he had. I'm just thrilled to have his car.Still got a pack of his smokes in the console too !!
