    Help Estimating Tire Deduction

I've been getting a 75% (18 point) originality deduction for having correct size/correct WW, Michelin radials on my 67. What deduction can I expect with new repos of correct size & 5/8" WW?

Would there be any difference in deduction between brands below:
    -Coker Firestone Firestone Deluxe Champion
    -Coker Goodrich Silvertown
    -Kelsey Goodyear Power Cushion

    Thanks Ron

They are all the proper bias-ply OEM brands, but I think that only the Kelseys are nylon, IIRC the Cokers are polyester. Since the originals were nylon, then the Kelseys would have the lowest deductions. Probably 10% due to DOT marking but that is all?? Not sure if polyester would be the 20% or 30% deduct due to "slightly" or "considerably" different.

Kelsey makes the closest tire ,they are made from the original molds and are the correct compound (nylon) with the correct 2 ply 4 ply rating . Cokers are polyester with a load range B rating . I just drove to there store (Kelsey) last week and and bought 5 775 15 Blackwalls for my 65.

Judging Reference Manual (JRM) is your friend! It will explain the standard deductions for tires and many other items. I believe standard deduction for the tires you have described it THREE points for the four tires on the ground. But, don't hold me to that since I do NOT have the JRM with me here at work.

Rick is correct on the deduction. Michael and Bill are correct regarding the Kelsey tires.

Thanks for responding and for the information. I have been told that the Kelsey GY Power Cushion were the most originals but didn't understand why. So, for my clarification, the Firestone and Goodrich by Coker were originally nylon but repos are now made with polyester.

How do judges determine the material used or do they know Firestone and Goodrich repos where made with different material?

My BFG Cokers say "Polyester Cord" right on the side of the tire.

Ron, my car with the Kelsey sourced Goodyear Power Cushion 5/8" WW tires consistently gets a 3 point deduct at Regional and National events for originality. Other than finding an ORIGINAL set of tires, I would suggest buying from Kelsey. Great company, service and product. Highly recommended.

One addition. Unless I misunderstood, the Kelsey tires are actually made by Goodyear and licensed to Kelsey for sale. The Cokers are made by somebody that Coker contracts with to use the mold they have, which unfortunately are not always correct in configuration, i.e. tread pattern, sidewalls, cord, etc. Kelsey is the way to go IMHO.
