1956 Starter and Solenoid shown in the JM

    Hi guys,

I was looking over the JM on page 86. The 'correct' starter motor for '56 is shown as part # 1107627 with the solenoid # 1119767. But looking at the Chevy parts catalog from 1957 it shows the solenoid 1119767 as being discontinued on 7/1/56. The replacement part number is 1119789. There were a lot of 1956's made after July 1st of that year. Is this an error in the JM or is there something I'm missing? Pictures would be appreciated if anyone has them handy.

    Thanks

    Andrew,

1956 produced late in the model year 4026 had a 1107627 starter on it.

    The P&A 30 pages revised date 10/1/56 - has 1107627 starter listed for 1955-56 Corvette V/8

gary, the question was about the solenoid. if there is a dust cover on the solenoid i would expect the solenoid number to be 789. 789 has the tabs to hold the dust boot. 789 soleniod started to appear at the beginning of the 56 passenger car production(august -september,1955). also when a revision is made, a footnote with the cars involved in having a item revised need to be included. besides running changes during the year, there are fg,fk, gr, gu, and gv motors that can have differences.

Gary and John, thanks for the replys. I guess my question might be simplified as which is the correct solenoid for a very late '56? Did the 789 appear on any original cars?
