I have been looking for several years for excellent original 67 red door panels. I have pretty much given up hope of finding a great pair. My question is that I overheard a fellow member discussing the new door panels from Corvette America and was told that the new ones have the correct upper support and a softer feel. I bought a pair from them 4 years ago and sent them back as the fit and finish was not as good as the ones that I have. I have reproductions on the car but they are not as rock hard as many that I have seen. Are the latest CA offerings that much better than the past version? If so, will they receive full credit? Thanks in advance.

Re: 67 door panels
Dad just bought a pair of 67 coupe door panels from CA they look great and are soft. he got the deluxe panels so all the trim does fit perfect. can not comment on fit as we are a little ways from doing that. but from everybody I talked too said they fit fine- Top

Re: 67 door panels
I bought a RH 1 last year for my 67 conv. It fit lousy and appeared to be bent out of shape. Would not fit anywhere close at the bottom. They sent me another in a couple weeks which fit somewhat better, but was still off at the bottom on the door handle end. It is what it is---Pot luck!- Top

Re: 67 door panels
Steve I got my 67 reproduction door panels from Al Knoch. I sent Al my originals and Al harvested the metal substrates which he used to build the new panels around. The vinyl material looks pretty close to original. The fit of the fuzzy wipes along the top required a little persuasion to fit along the top of my convertible door and the vent window frame. The first set of fuzzy wipes Al supplied were totally wrong so tge panels went back and had to be rebuilt withe correct fuzzy wipes. Overall I would rate Al's door panels as pretty good but have nothing to compare them to. One last note, early 67 door panels are different than those later in the production. I can't tell you when the changeover took place. The difference is that the panel is longer as measured across the top on the panels for the early convertible door panels. I don't know if the coupe panel has the same difference.

Re: 67 door panels
Mike
Your CA door panels look nice. Out of curiosity, do you know if the substrates inside your CA panels are made of metal or another material. Years ago I recall that most manufacturers used plastic. My original panels had metal substrates which is why I had Al(really Dale Robertson who worked for Al for many years. Sadly Dale passed away last year) take my originals apart and harvest the metal substrates for use in the panels he made for me. It was during this process that it was realized that my early 67( September 6, 1966) convertible door panels are about 1/2 inch longer. The upper rear corner is not cut off as it is later production door panels. We speculate that the later modification may have something to do with it hitting the bottom of the corner of the hardtop or convertible to weatherstrip. Perhaps some of our learned members know more about this subtle modification in the 67 door panel.
