Re: R-45XLS spark plugs
I'm not sure what you mean by "extensive research", but guys here who have decades of experience with vintage Corvettes (like me and John Hinckley) have been recommending AC heat range 5 or equivalent in other brands for normal street and highway driving for ALL OE engine configurations since the TDB has been in existance.
We figured out back in the sixties that OE heat ranges (4 or 3) were too cold for normal driving due to average engine load being low, which caused plug fouling due to too low insulator temperature. Heat range 5 runs hotter at the insulator, which reduces fouling, but won't overheat because with any OE engine configuration you can only operate at full load for a few seconds at a time, including drag racing and autocross.
AC heat range 3 or 2 or equivalent in another brand should be installed for road racing.
