    Holley 3124 Hot Leak Issue

After about ten years of no problem use, the 3124 Holley on my 65 has developed a habit of dripping fuel out of the venturis after the car has been heated up and shut off.

I rebuilt the carb, thinking there was a problem with the needle and seats, and reset the floats - but the problem has returned.

Is there something odd going on with the current gasoline/ethanol mix that requires the floats to be set lower than original spec? I am using BP premium fuel.

Thanks for any help or suggestions....

    Randal,

I think setting the float level just level with the bottom of the sight plug should be fine.

If you are sure the floats are not set high, fuel pump pressure is not high and all the gaskets are sealing good make sure the air bleeds are not clogged and the main well emulsion bleeds are open. These emulsion bleeds are small holes drilled into the main well inside the metering block. Try some carburetor spray but be careful of painted surfaces, these air bleeds also serve to vent vapor that would normally push fuel out like what you experience.

How does the engine run while driving, idle and cruise?

Randal, something else is going on. I rebuilt my 3124 about 8 years ago and drive it almost every week on pump gas from several local stations with no issues. Don't think this is an issue with the gas. Other thing you might check - be sure "butterfly" valves are closing tight when you let off the throttle and shut it off. If by chance they are cracked open this might cause the problem.

Me thinks the lowering of the float to barely bottom on sight hole should cure your problem
