    Radiator Cap

What's the difference between a 7 pound and a 15 pound cap. I have a Dewitts after market radiator in my 59 and I run a 7 pound cap, but the Dewitts people say I should have a 15- 17 pound cap.

It is about the boiling point. Higher pressure = higher boiling point. Certain locations in the cylinder head get much hotter than 180deg (or whatever the thermostat is set at). If these hotspots get too hot, they turn into steam. When it turns to steam there is no water to cool that spot. And then it gets really hot really fast. Warped heads and blown gaskets are the end result. The trick is to get enough pressure to not boil over and also have low enough pressure to not blow the rubber hoses. Fine line between the two. 15 or 16 is most common for modern engines.

That's true. Although a new aluminium radiator might handle the 15 lbs radiator cap pressure, I would stay with the 7 lbs one.http://forums.corvetteforum.com/c1-a...iator-cap.html https://www.forums.ncrs.org/showthre...g+radiator+cap
