Welcome to the NCRS and to the discussion board.
The phrase 'numbers match' is very overused and abused and as such has numerous vague meanings. If you're trying to establish if the engine and transmission in your car are the factory installed originals, much more information must be provided.
3370014 is probably 3970014 and would be one of two engine case casting numbers used by GM in Corvettes and many other cars and trucks throughout the '70s and '80s. There is a small rectangular pad on the right (passenger) side of the engine case directly in front and below the cylinder head. This pad will be stamped with two sets of numbers. Let us know what's there, preferably accompanied by a clear picture.
Not sure about the transmission number.- Top

Re: 74 Vette numbers matching?
The quick answer is not yet and Michael is asking for more data from the sources where we typically expect to find such "matching number" data. You would be looking for numbers that end in 409857 on the engine pad (rectangular pad) and on a similar pad on the transmission. These are called the VIN derivatives and would be in a format such as 14S409857. The fifth digits tells us you should have a smallblock (350/195) in the engine compartment.Tom Russo
