This trim tag was sent to me with a couple of questions it's a 1975 G26 build date.

    Observations appreciated.

The actual tag or just the picture?

      Hi Tom,

Looks as if someone made a failed attempt at removing the rivets before their incorrect repaint. They didn't seem to have a problem with the panel rivets.

What questions did this person have about the tag?

What lead you to believe that it was a failed attempt?

Actually the questions were mine. In my NCRS writings, I wrote that the trim tag station was changed sometime in the 1975-76 time period due to both an interview I had had with a plant engineer during that period and the fact that after that period, trim tags were painted with the second coat of paint but no primer. To me it looked like some had attempted something due to the scratches around the rivets and the paint within the rivits. So my curiosity if others found this configuration suspicious.

I was sent the picture to show that this tag was painted but the senders tag and another close in the serial sequence had no paint. So the inconsistency...but I found this tag suspicious. The sender was looking for some rationale.

I have found that if you need to remove the tag, use a Dremel tool with a small burr, grind the head off the rivet starting in the center. You can take your time and not damage the plate. Just work around the center pin, not applying enough pressure to cause the rivet to spin.
