I have an 'original' fan clutch that wasn't working so replaced with a Paragon unit. I am thinking of having mine rebuilt but question if it is close enough to original to make it worthwhile. It has the Bi-metallic strip with printing 'this side up', a C something (can't read second letter) ink stamp on front. The front is stamped with the three line notice e.g. patented in Canada 1961. fins are straight and diameter is roughly 5 7/8". What is not right compared to judging manual is that the shaft only steps down as it enters the housing. The shaft/flange measures roughly 1.5" in length vs the 1.8" in the judging guide and the edge of the flange is stamped "052171SC". From all of this I assume it is a 1971 service replacement. Question is, is it close enough that once rebuilt it will incur a minimum deduction?
An interesting follow on question: Since the shaft is 0.3" shorter than original that says the fan is not as far into the shroud. Are these cooling systems sensitive enough that that difference would negatively affect cooling?
Will appreciate all help and advice, Jim B.
